MISSION

The Peace Corps was established in 1961 and since then, more than 170,000 Peace Corps Volunteers have served in 136 countries working on issues ranging from AIDS education, information technology, and environmental preservation.

The goal of the Photos for Peace website is inspired by Goal 3 of the Peace Corps Mission, Helping promote a better understanding of other peoples on the part of all Americans. By providing a space on the internet to allow current and returned Peace Corps Volunteers to share their insights and experiences through images, we hope to increase the understanding of people around the world. With the spread of the internet worldwide, the reach and accessibility of this website reaches far beyond the geographic borders of America. We strongly believe that Volunteers often have the best eyes capturing some insightful images of people and places who often turn out to be their neighbors and community.

To this end, the specific goals of Photos for Peace are to:

1. Provide an exhibition space for the sharing of photographs taken by Peace Corps volunteers

2. Share images of people from around the world that gives insights into their culture and everyday life while maintaining respect and dignity for the people.
